Eyes Wide Shut

Eyes Wide Shut was Stanley Kubrick's 1999 film, which he directed, produced, and co-wrote. It was his last film, and it was based on the 1926 novella called Traumnovelle by Arthur Schnitzler. It stars Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman as a married couple, and the film would be their last together just before their real life marriage dissolved. Kidman's character reveals a contemplated affair to her hubby, Dr. Harford, played by Cruise. He then decides to get even and have an escapade of his own. He happens upon a strange invitation only masquerade party, which turns out to be an orgy involving an underground cult. Love it!

Blade

Blade is the first of a trilogy of movies that was released in 1998 and stars Wesley Snipes and Stephen Dorff. The film is based upon the Marvel Comic of the same name. Snipes plays Blade, a human-vampire hybrid, who protects humans by kicking some serious vampire ass. He looks good in the process, too! One of my favorite vampire movies from the 90's!

Psycho

Psycho was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and released in 1960, and it stars Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh. It was based upon the 1959 novel of the same name written by Robert Bloch. Leigh portrays a secretary who is on the run after embezzling money from her boss. She hits the road and after traveling for a while, she decides to stop at the isolated Bates Motel. Anthony Perkins' portrayal of the psychotic son of the owner of Bates Motel is amazing. Mother Bates is creepy as Hell, too. This is one of Hitchcock's finest, and it has become a classic.

The Evil Dead

The Evil Dead was directed by Sam Raimi and released in 1981 after a controversial battle over blood and gore. The film was refused by every US film distributor, until a European film company took it to Cannes. Although it was not received well by critics after it's opening, the film has become a cult classic. The film stars Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss and Betsy Baker. When a group of college kids go to an isolated cabin in the woods for a little vacation, strange things start happening when they find and play a tape that releases evil spirits. This flick is one of Raimi's campy, gruesome classics. If you haven't seen it, then chop, chop!

The Silence of the Lambs

The Silence of the Lambs was the 1991 masterpiece directed by Jonathan Demme and starring Sir Anthony Hopkins, Jodi Foster, and Ted Levine. It is based upon the novel of the same name by Thomas Harris. Jodi Foster plays Clarice, a young FBI agent who is tracking a serial killer who is abducting and killing young women. Dr. Hannibal Lecter, played wonderfully by Hopkins, is a psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer. Lecter decides to help little Clarice find her killer, Buffalo Bill, played by Ted Levine. Pulling in the top five Academy Awards, this film is an all time classic.

It

It was a miniseries released in 1990 to television, and it was based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. Starring Tim Curry as Pennywise the Clown, this flick is somewhat cheesy, but I do love me some Pennywise. Tim Curry plays this role with his usual pizazz, and he wears the costume oh so well. Pennywise the Dancing Clown likes to lure in children and kill them. When he starts stalking a pack of losers, they decide to try to destroy It. Yes, it could do without the giant fake spider at the end, but I still love the imagery of the evil clown.

Poltergeist

Poltergeist was released in 1982, and it was co-written by Steven Spielberg and Tobe Hooper; Hooper (director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre) directed the film. This film focuses on the Freeling family who are haunted by a poltergeist in their home, and they seem to be communicating through the youngest daughter, Carol Anne. The gore factor is awesome, and this film was one of the most popular horror films of its time.
