The Shining was filmed in 1980 by Stanley Kubrick, and it was based upon the novel by Stephen King. The plot centers around the Torrence Family, who moves to the Overlook Hotel for the winter, acting as care takers in the off season. During the bleakest point of the winter season when they are completely and utterly snowed in, Jack begins his gradual mental breakdown and the horror ensues. Jack Nicholson portrays Jack Torrence, Shelley Duvall portrays Jack's wife, Wendy, and together they "shine." One of Nicholson's greatest performances, and one of Kubrick's masterpieces, this film is likely to give you nightmares for years.
